The science

What Is Molecular Hydrogen?

Molecular hydrogen (H₂) is pure hydrogen gas dissolved in water — the smallest molecule in existence.
Unlike the hydrogen bonded to oxygen in H₂O, dissolved H₂ is free-floating and bioavailable.

It acts as an antioxidant, helping to neutralise free radicals associated with oxidative stress.
Over 1,400 peer-reviewed studies have explored its properties across a wide range of applications.

  • Smallest molecule in existence (0.1 nanometres)
  • Classified as Generally Recognised As Safe (GRAS)
  • Subject of clinical research in Japan since the 1990s
  • No known side effects at any concentration
  • 1,400+ peer-reviewed studies published to date

What Our Customers Say

Rated 4.7 out of 5 from verified UK purchases.

  • Jill, Cornwall January 2026
    Verified
"Dead simple to use. Fill it up, press the button, wait a few minutes. The water tastes noticeably smoother than tap. Arrived next day too which was a bonus. Using it every morning now — it's just part of the routine."
  • Susan, Milton Keynes November 2025
    Verified
"Switched from a £40 Amazon bottle that tasted like a swimming pool. Night and day difference with this one. No chemical taste at all, water genuinely tastes different — lighter somehow. The gas vent actually works, you can smell the chlorine coming out the bottom."
  • James, Manchester April 2026
    Verified
"Was worried about the plastic since I usually prefer glass, but after reading why it needs to pressurise I get the engineering decision. Build quality is solid, the OLED display is a nice touch. Impressive bit of kit for the price."
  • Christine, Bristol June 2025
    Verified
"Customer service was brilliant. Had a question about which water to use and got a reply within an hour with a proper detailed answer. You can tell this is a real UK company, not some random import with no support."
  • Adam, Southampton April 2026
    Verified
"The 280ml size seemed small at first but it makes sense — you drink it fresh while the hydrogen's still dissolved. I just make a new batch whenever I want one. Battery lasts over a week doing two or three a day."
  • Kirsty, Inverness February 2026
    Verified
"Bought one for myself, then bought two more for my mum and sister. All three arrived within six days. The packaging was proper, not just thrown in a jiffy bag like the last bottle I ordered online. Feels like a quality product."
  • Mark, Surrey December 2025
    Verified
"Did a lot of research before buying. Compared this against Osmio and Echo — DOUSE has the same SPE/PEM tech and 3000ppb concentration but at less than half the price. Couldn't find a reason not to try it. No regrets."
  • Deborah, Cardiff April 2026
    Verified
"Good product, does exactly what it says. Only reason for 4 stars is I wish it came in a slightly larger size. But the quality is excellent and the gas venting feature sold me over the cheaper options. Solid purchase."

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is hydrogen water?

Regular water (H₂O) with extra molecular hydrogen (H₂) dissolved in it — similar to how carbon dioxide is added to sparkling water. The hydrogen isn't chemically bonded to the water; it's free-floating dissolved gas. Molecular hydrogen is classified as Generally Recognised As Safe (GRAS) and has been the subject of extensive peer-reviewed research.

Isn't there hydrogen already in the water?

Yes, but the hydrogen in H₂O is chemically bonded to oxygen. Hydrogen water contains additional free molecular hydrogen (H₂) dissolved in the water — not chemically bonded. This is the form studied in over 1,400 peer-reviewed research papers.

What does SPE/PEM technology do?

SPE (Solid Polymer Electrolyte) and PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) technology separates hydrogen from other gases during electrolysis. When tap water is electrolysed, chlorine and ozone can be produced as byproducts. The PEM blocks these from reaching the drinking water, and our gas release valve vents them safely out of the bottom of the unit.

How do I use it?

Fill with tap or filtered water, press the button once for a 5-minute cycle or twice for a 10-minute cycle, wait for it to finish, and drink. Best consumed immediately or within 30 minutes, as hydrogen gradually escapes over time.

What type of water should I use?

Any tap or filtered water works. Filtered water is preferred as it allows for higher hydrogen concentrations, but tap water is fine — the gas venting system removes chlorine and other byproducts that might be present in standard tap water.

How do I know it's actually working?

You'll see tiny bubbles (similar to champagne) during the cycle, and the water has a noticeably smoother taste. For precise verification, you can use H2 Blue reagent test drops (available separately) to confirm hydrogen concentration. You can also smell waste gases being vented from the base during operation.

Why 280ml? Isn't that small?

Hydrogen is the smallest molecule in existence and begins escaping the moment you open the lid. 280ml is designed to be drunk in one sitting so you get the full concentration. A larger bottle means hydrogen levels drop significantly before you finish. You can generate a fresh batch whenever you want.

Why plastic instead of glass?

To achieve 3000ppb, the bottle must pressurise during electrolysis. Glass cannot safely handle this internal pressure. Our BPA-free, food-grade polymer is specifically engineered to withstand the pressurised environment needed for supersaturation.

How often do I need to charge it?

Once a week for typical daily use (2-3 bottles per day). Each charge lasts 12-15 cycles. Charges fully in 2-3 hours using any USB-C cable.

Can I use it with hot drinks?

No — heat causes molecular hydrogen to escape rapidly. Use cold or room temperature water only. Hot drinks can also damage the membrane.

What's your return policy?

60-day money-back guarantee on all orders. It is generally expected for you to have used the bottle consistently in order to qualify for the guarantee. Contact our UK-based support team at info@dousewater.co.uk and we'll arrange a full refund. The bottle also comes with a 12-month warranty covering manufacturing defects.
